5. Processes for perfumery chemicals

The increasing challenges in obtaining natural ingredients and the booming demand for perfumery chemicals in the commercial market create the need for synthetic alternatives. Indeed, advances in catalysis and synthetic chemistry synergistically contributes to the fragrance research and assist in developing the products with sustainable ingredients and thus benefits both in terms of ecological and economical aspects. In this context, we have developed indigenous and greener processes for industrially relevant perfumery chemicals, e.g., Mefrosol and a-Campholenic aldehyde. Both processes are cost-competitive and demonstrations are ready at 1 Kg scale. These developments not only lead to significant cost reduction but also are expected to increase the country’s self-reliance through import substitution of the perfumery chemicals.
